The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:

Strategic Plan Updates
The Chief Schools Officer along with the Chief Academic Officer presented on an initiative to address early literacy efforts so that all students are reading on grade level by the end of second grade. View the entire presentation.
 

District Police also presented on an updated threat management process to be implemented this school year. View the presentation.
 

Changes regarding administrative personnel

Superintendent Maria Vazquez introduced the following new administrators:

Katharine Boyd, assistant principal, Princeton Elementary

Jodie Cary, senior director, Orange Technical College, East Campus

Ulunda Frazier, assistant principal, Eccleston Elementary

Aimee Hinson, assistant principal, Blankner K-8 School

James Morosetti, Jr., principal, Village Park Elementary

Damian Rosado, principal, Southwest Middle

Rajni Vanmali, assistant principal, Hidden Oaks Elementary

Information Technology Services will now be led by Maurice Draggon, Chief Information Officer. Mr. Draggon is a lifelong educator who has experience as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, district administrator, director, and senior director. Using the knowledge gained within each role, he was able to collaborate in the development, implementation, and management of the 1:1 Digital Device program for Orange County Public Schools. He is excited to apply all of his previous experience toward the opportunities brought on by the role of CIO.

Foundation for Orange County Public Schools’ Assistant Director presented Donald Dudley with the Florida Department of Education’s 2023 Outstanding School Senior Volunteer Award. This award is presented annually to volunteers who have shown remarkable dedication and commitment to quality education in Florida’s K-12 public schools. Through his volunteer work, Donald has empowered his students at Lake Weston and Winegard elementary schools with innovative STEM projects, including growing vegetable gardens and creating an underwater robot. Before winning the state award, Donald was named OCPS’ 2023 Outstanding ADDition School Senior Volunteer during the Crystal Awards last March.
