Four students hold certificates

Four OCPS students participated in Electronic Arts Orlando’s “Get in the Game” STEAM camp, July 17-21, at the Creative Village location.

The free weeklong program equipped young women and non-binary students with coding skills and real-world applications of science, technology, engineering arts and math. It exposed 16 students, from schools throughout Central Florida, to the power of play and taught them how they can shape the future of the video game industry.

“We received a substantial increase in applications this year which is a very promising sign that we’re making a difference,” said Jocel Thornhill, Director of Operations and Program Management at EA Tiburon. “We hope to continue building a more diverse talent pipeline through this program and our other community outreach initiatives that support careers in STEAM.”

OCPS participants include:

  • Karina Ann, Freedom High School

  • Veronica Bosch, University High School

  • Sarah Kirk, Windermere High School

  • Alexis Sapp, Evans High School

“This experience opened my eyes to the limitless potential of technology in the gaming industry,” said Ann, a rising senior.

Rising juniors and seniors interested in participating in this camp next summer should look for a call to applicants in the springtime and contact [email protected] if they are interested. Visit https://www.ea.com/ea-studios/ea-orlando/community-outreach for more information.
