Large group of students and adults hold certificates
The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
 
U.S. Dept. of Education’s 2023 Green School Award winners recognized
Three schools were recognized for receiving the U.S. Department of Education’s 2023 Green Ribbon Schools Awards in Washington, D.C. in August (shown in photo above). Arbor Ridge was recognized for improving awareness of green topics through its digital newsletter; Oak Ridge received the accolade for implementing its Share Tables Program for uneaten food; and Stone Lakes was honored for its agriculture program that includes growing and caring of crops and livestock.

Superintendent Maria Vazquez introduced the following new administrator:

Board member football challenge (jersey exchange) continues
 
District 4 Board Member Gould (West Orange High) challenged District 5 Board Member Felder (Dr. Phillips High). Results to come.
 
District 2 Board Member Salamanca (Colonial High) took her challenge to another level as Colonial students, staff and mascot came in support of a win against Vice Chair/District 2 Board Member Gallo (University High). Results to come.
 
Chair Jacobs and Member ByrdUpdate to the previous challenge, Chair Jacobs was required to wear the Blue Darter jersey after District 7 Board Member Byrd’s Apopka High beat Olympia High, 25-23, on Oct. 6.
