Middle Schools

OCPS has a collaborative partnership with Orange County Government – Citizens’ Commission for Children (CCC) and the City of Orlando which provides for effective and sustainable afterschool programs services. Specific outcome objectives have been established to include increased academic performance, reduced truancy and absenteeism.

Afterschool Zone is a nationally recognized program because of the level of support and community collaboration. The Board of County Commissioners and The City of Orlando continue to fund these programs at 39 middle schools.

These programs are totally free of charge for middle school students. In the summer, there is a minimal fee with scholarships available for families who cannot afford to pay. Components of the afterschool programs include academic enrichment (tutoring, homework time, computer labs, mentoring, etc.), character and leadership development, drama, chorus and other arts, multicultural and diversity activities, counseling, nutrition, prevention programs, exercise and fitness, athletics and more.

This partnership also includes collaboration with:

Boys and Girls Club

YMCA
