Males of Color Image

The purpose of the Males of Color (MOC) Initiative is to comply with the Council of Great City School’s Pledge to address concerns that came out the My Brother’s Keeper Bill that was signed in 2014. Specifically, it is designed to identify, implement, and monitor proven approaches that minimize the disparities (absenteeism, suspensions, and placement in special education courses, enrollment in advanced courses, graduation rates, and college enrollment) that exist among males of color. MOC students receive an enhanced academic experience that propels them toward higher academic/social levels, better prepares them for lifelong success, and closes the achievement gap. High schools select areas of focus to fulfill their obligation to teach all students equitably with excellence to the highest academic standards and prepare them for successful participation in our nation.
